
On invitation by the Brussels-based Union of International Associations (UIA), the APFAO, represented by its interim secretariat head, Octavio B. Peralta, CEO & President of PCAAE, introduced the building blocks of the APFAO at the UIA Asia-Pacific Roundtable 2016 held on September 28-29, 2016 at the Paradise Hotel in Busan, South Korea. The roundtable was attended by over 100 delegates from about 80 organizations in 20 countries.
In introducing the Asia-Pacific Federation of Association Organizations (APFAO), Mr. Peralta shared with the audience how it was initiated by the PCAAE during the inaugural Great Ideas Conference on Association Management organized by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) in Hong Kong in March 2015 with the signing of the ‘Hong Kong Charter’ of its founding members, namely, the Associations Forum (AF), the Australasian Society of Association Executives (AuSAE), the Korean Society of Association Executives (KSAE) and the Philippine Council of Associations and Association Executives (PCAAE).
The UIA Asia-Pacific Roundtable promotes and facilitates the work of international associations by providing learning and networking opportunities. This year’s event was hosted by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) in cooperation with the Busan Tourism Organization (BTO).
UIA http://www.uia.org/ provides and maintains a comprehensive, up-to-date, and reliable database on international associations, their activities and concerns, and their meeting activities. UIA also supports and facilitates the work of international associations through training and networking opportunities.
APFAO www.www.apfao.org is a network of national ‘associations of associations’ in Asia and the Pacific which aims to advance the work and advocacies of associations and which provides a regional platform for information-sharing and networking opportunities.
